Mary Seminara-Schostok, a Lake County assistant state’s attorney, has been sworn in as an associate judge in the 19th Judicial Circuit Court.

Seminara-Schostok, 39, was sworn in Friday by Judge Jack Hoogasian. The circuit covers Lake and McHenry Counties.

Seminara-Schostok was chosen by the 16 circuit judges in the two counties from a field of 15 lawyers to fill the associate judge vacancy.

Seminara-Schostok, a prosecutor in the state’s attorney’s office for 10 years, had been chief of its special investigations division and chief of the Children’s Advocacy Center. Before becoming a member of the Illinois bar in 1987, she practiced bankruptcy law in Pittsburgh, where she also had been an assistant public defender.

She received a bachelor’s degree at Youngstown State University and a law degree at Capital University Law School in Columbus, Ohio.

Seminara-Schostok lives in Libertyville with her husband, Michael, and three children, Marisa, Gina and Michael.
