player ready...A new condominium tower will add to the residential redevelopment of the South Loop, already well under way with loft conversions and new townhouse construction.
One East 14th Place is planned for 96 one-, two- and three-bedroom residences with 783 to 1,595 square feet of living area. Preconstruction prices in the 16-story building range from $115,000 to $256,000.
The condos will have either balconies or landscaped terraces, nine-foot ceilings, double-glazed windows, hardwood floors in living and dining rooms, wall-to-wall carpeting in bedrooms and master baths with separate tubs and showers.
Many of the units will have views of downtown Chicago and Lake Michigan.
The brick structure was designed to be reminiscent of an earlier architectural era. It will have two elevators, receiving room, a night doorman, plus intercom security system.
An indoor garage with 108 spaces will occupy floors 2 through 4. Parking is $15,000 extra.
An existing building on the site at State Street and 14th Place will be demolished to make way for the new project. Construction is scheduled to start in October. First occupancies are expected in February, 2000.
The developers are William Warman and Warren Barr of Legacy Development Group.
Catering to those who may work at home, the building will feature a business center that will be equipped with a computer with high-speed Internet access, facsimile machine and a copier.
A fitness center will be another amenity. In addition, there will be a bicycle storage room, plus individual storage lockers.
The building offers easy access to the lakefront, Chinatown, the Museum Campus, Soldier Field and McCormick Place.
