A land planning firm has been hired to design a showplace park for Romeoville.

The Village Board awarded a $5,850 design contract to Landtech for the 12 1/2-acre Century Park.

The park will feature not only greenery and athletic fields, but also a nature center that will be financed by the developers of the High Point subdivision, recreation director Steve Gulden said.

The village will apply this summer for a $200,000 grant to fund development of the rest of the parkland, Gulden said.

The grant awards will be announced in the fall, he said.

In other business, Mayor Fred Dewald noted that growth has lowered Romeoville’s tax rate, while providing funds for needed services in a growing population.
