The Lincoln-Way High School Foundation is getting ready to expand its scholarship program as the school district grows.

According to Greg Hobbs, the president of the volunteer fundraising organization, a $20,000 endowment has been established to fund scholarships for graduating seniors.

The scholarship awards have grown already, from seven in the 1996-97 school year to 14 in the 1997-98 school year.

The foundation’s incoming officers–Janet Caschetta, president; Mary Weber, vice president; Sue Thomas, secretary; and Ron Kokal, treasurer–are planning a number of activities for the 1998-99 school year. They include a calendar sale, a dinner-dance and a raffle for a new house being built by Lincoln-Way construction trades students.

The dollar amount of the foundation’s contributions increased dramatically in the last year, Hobbs said.

Donations in the 1996-97 school year totaled $48,000. Besides scholarships, that money funded the purchase of two computer clusters for the social studies departments at the East Campus in Frankfort and the Central Campus in New Lenox and multi-media work stations with overhead projectors, LCD panels and laser disk players for each campus.

In the 1997-98 school year, donations increased to $76,334.
