Dan Guerin, a DuPage County assistant state’s attorney, has been recognized by a national children’s advocacy group for his accomplishments prosecuting child abuse and domestic violence cases.

Guerin, who has been a prosecutor in DuPage since 1990, became the supervisor of the domestic violence and child abuse unit in 1996.

He received honorable mention from the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children of Arlington, Va., which recently passed out its 1998 law enforcement awards.

The awards recognize law enforcement personnel who work to ensure the safety of children.

Guerin was nominated for the honor by Sgt. Bruce Malkin of the West Chicago Police Department for his work in the prosecution of Raymond A. Borkowicz, a 40-year-old man convicted of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child after an investigation by police and prosecutors.

Borkowicz was sentenced to 30 years in prison for sexually assaulting friends of his 10-year-old son.
