player ready...The Naperville Humane Society is still adding features to its new Web site, but visitors to www.chicagobiznet.com/nhshumane apparently like what they have seen so far.
Dawn Michael, director of development for the shelter, said the site has logged about 3,000 visits, and in-person adoptions have gone up 25 percent since the home page was launched several months ago.
“We also get lots of e-mail messages from people with questions about animal behavior and other pet-related topics, and we respond to every one,” Michael said. “We hope that by dealing with people’s questions, we can help prevent pets from being given up.”
Hosts of the Web site are cats and tail-wagging dogs who guide visitors to such sections as “Pets of the Week,” “Pet Talk” and “Get Involved.” The site was designed by Virtual Resources Inc., an Elmhurst firm that donated its services.
Michael said Tom Lombardo, Virtual Resources president, became aware of the Naperville Humane Society after his brother Mike Lombardo adopted a dog from the shelter.
The non-profit shelter found homes for more than 700 animals last year, Michael said.
