The Tinley Park Plan Commission was forced to postpone action Thursday night on a rezoning request because the businessman seeking the change did not show up.
Ken Zomparelli, president of Innovative Decks, 6926 W. 183rd St., had received a preliminary favorable recommendation for his request to rezone his property from residential to business two weeks ago. There was no explanation for his failure to appear at Thursday’s session.
Commissioners also had to delay action on his request for a special-use permit for a residence within a business area, because Zomparelli lives on the property, as well as a request that he be permitted to display a gazebo at the front of the business.

Zomparelli’s business, which manufactures gazebos and similar structures, was annexed into the village in 1992. Although the front gazebo violated zoning requirements, Innovative Decks was allowed to keep it there under a grandfather clause because it was an existing company.
Zomparelli said he learned only recently that the clause applied to the original gazebo, not to others he erected as replacements as the display model was sold.
