The roadside checks, conducted under the Will County Government League’s Operation “Will to Live” Program, is designed to provide a deterrent for those who might violate Illinois Vehicle Code statutes or New Lenox ordinances, said Tanya Shipley, traffic safety program coordinator for the league.
Specifically, checks will be made to detect motorists driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, operating a motor vehicle with defective equipment or driving without a valid driver’s license, proof of insurance or seatbelts.
The safety check is just one of several that have been conducted throughout the county under the Operation “Will to Live” Program, Shipley noted. The program is funded by an Illinois Department of Transportation grant and administered by the league.
“These roadside safety checks are being conducted to promote the safety and well-being of the motoring public,” said Alan Anderson, executive director of the government league.
The Illinois State Police will assist county sheriff’s police and New Lenox police in conducting this weekend’s roadside safety check, Anderson said.
