Aldermen have approved the appointment of attorney William McGrath to the newly created position of city attorney/personnel director. The appointment, effective Aug. 1, also calls for McGrath to succeed City Administrator Ronald Podschweit, whose retirement in April 2000 also was announced at the meeting.
McGrath, 47, who has a private law practice in Batavia, has been independently contracting his legal services to the city for the last 10 years. He will begin closing down his private practice and in August will become the city’s in-house attorney as well as assuming personnel duties.
Along with a starting annual salary of $95,000, McGrath’s five-year contract with the city ensures his progression from his new position in August to the position of city administrator in April 2000.
