The architect/builder of the McDonald’s restaurant in Lake Forest has cooked up a less controversial project in the North Shore community.
Rick Swanson of R.M. Swanson & Associates, who specializes in luxury single-family homes, is building Laurel Place, a condominium development that is within walking distance of Lake Forest’s historic Market Square.
Aleady completed is one of the two 18-unit, three-story buildings. The second one is under construction.
Laurel Place offers seven models ranging from 1,213 to 1,603 square feet with one or two bedrooms. Amenities include nine-foot ceilings, woodburning fireplaces, private balconies and heated underground parking.
Prices in the first building are $255,000 to $345,000, and $268,000 to $368,000 in the second building.
One model can be viewed.
The architecture, featuring typical Lake Forest-type brick and cedar shake mansard roofs, blends in with existing residences, according to Swanson.
Two old structures–a nursery and a dry cleaner–were demolished to create the two-acre condominium site.
The elevator buildings include individual storage rooms and a security system.
Swanson said the maintenance-free lifestyle appeals to empty-nesters, many of whom are snowbirds who own residences in the Sun Belt.
Laurel Place is north of Market Square at 151 Laurel Ave.
