The automotive products firm, a unit of AlliedSignal Inc., reached a multi-year agreement with the NHRA to sponsor the $1.5 million event that is scheduled to be staged annually at the recently completed racing facility located on Illinois Highway 53.
The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
“We’ve sponsored racing events on the East and West Coasts for several years, but nothing in the center of the country. This gives us balance across the country,” said Steve LaVallee, merchandising manager for AlliedSignal Automotive Group.
The inaugural Route 66 Nationals, the first NHRA event scheduled for the $25 million, 30,000-seat Joliet speedway, will be held May 28 through May 31.
The racing event here will be the ninth of 22 events to be held this year in the $30 million NHRA Winston Drag Racing Series.
