A military court hearing was postponed Thursday for a Great Lakes Naval Training Center police officer who is under investigation for allegedly having a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old girl.

No new hearing date had been scheduled.

The accused sailor, a petty officer second class who handles drug-sniffing dogs for the base police, was scheduled to appear at a probable-cause hearing at 9 a.m. Thursday to determine whether he should stand trial.

According to Thomas Joyce, a Chicago attorney who represents the girl, the sailor allegedly had a three-month relationship earlier this year with the girl, who was living on the base with her mother and stepfather.

Joyce said the officer allegedly lured the girl, now 15, into a sexual relationship to gain her trust and get information about who was using marijuana on the base.

The Navy has declined to comment on the allegation, beyond confirming that the officer is under investigation for alleged sexual misconduct with a minor.
