Those with a connection to Geneva as well as St. Charles are now welcome at the warm weather emergency shelter, Lazarus House, which opened its doors Monday for its second summer season.
This year, the Geneva City Council joined the St. Charles City Council in offering its support for the shelter.
Those seeking shelter must be connected to either city in one of four ways: they have had a St. Charles or Geneva mailing address within the last 24 months; have immediate family living at a mailing address in either city; they are currently employed in either city or have children attending a school in either city.

The restrictions are necessary, said shelter director Darlene Marcusson, because it is the only warm weather shelter within DuPage, Kane or DeKalb Counties.
“We had to start out this way because without the restrictions we would collapse under the weight of people who would come,” she said.
The two other area homeless shelters in Aurora and Elgin shut down this month for the summer.
The shelter will be open from 9 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. in May and June at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 101 S. 6th Ave., St. Charles. In July the shelter will be housed at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 102 S. 2nd St., Geneva. It will move once again for August and September to the Free Methodist Church, 214 Walnut St., St. Charles.
