Amada Cruz, the Museum of Contemporary Art’s acting chief curator, is leaving to become director of the Center for Curatorial Studies Museum at Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson, N.Y. Cruz’s duties at Bard begin in the fall, but she will return to the MCA to complete her work on two shows next season: Jana Sterbak’s exhibit in October and Katharina Fritsch’s in March.
“This is my opportunity to be a director in a small institution, and it’s a really good opportunity,” said Cruz, who came to the MCA in 1995 as the Manilow Curator of Exhibitions. Cruz became acting chief curator in February, shortly after longtime museum director Kevin Consey announced his resignation. Chief curator Richard Francis had left earlier, and the search for his replacement was put on hold until Consey’s slot could be filled.
