The village has moved into the final phase of its facilities expansion plan with the hiring of a company to design a fourth fire station.
Village Board members Tuesday night voted to approve an agreement with Architects Inc. of New Lenox to draw up plans for and oversee construction of the $1.3 million facility, to be built at 191st Street and 80th Avenue.
An earlier study had called for the station to be completed this summer.

“It took a little longer to acquire the land and choose the site than we had anticipated,” Village Manager Dave Dorgan said, adding that construction is expected to begin this fall.
Trustee Matt Heffernan said the 7,500-square-foot building is to be completed between April and July of next year. Land for the station was donated by a developer.
Three other portions of Tinley’s facilities expansion plan are finished: the addition to Village Hall, 16250 S. Oak Park Ave.; construction of a new police station at 7850 W. 183rd St.; and remodeling of the former police station, 17355 S. 68th Ct., into a communications center and Senior and Youth Commissions facility.
