At one time, he stood about 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighed approximately 165 pounds. He was about 25 years old, had a noticeable overbite and most likely had brown hair. He died wearing a nylon Starter jacket, jeans and high-top sneakers.

But investigators want to know a far more important detail: his identity.

Will County investigators hope a composite sketch released Friday will help them identify the man whose decomposed remains were found last week in a prairie near Bolingbrook. Investigators say the man died from a gunshot wound to the head.

“So far, we have no idea who this person is, and we’re hoping someone will see the drawing in the paper and recognize him,” said Will County Sheriff’s Lt. Charles Malinowski. “We’re betting someone out there knows who this is.”

The remains were found April 22 in a remote area of a field behind a truck stop on the east side of Illinois Highway 53 in unincorporated DuPage Township. Investigators say the remains had been there for at least three years.

A truck driver first spotted the man’s skull. Investigators later searched a 100-acre patch and found the rest of his skeleton.

A police technician used the remains to sketch what the man probably looked like. Investigators say the sketch may become more detailed as the investigation proceeds.

According to investigators, the victim was either white or Hispanic. He weighed between 160 and 175 pounds and stood between 5 feet 8 inches and 5 feet 11 inches tall. He was between 20 and 30 years old.

When he died, he was wearing a light blue extra-large Starter jacket, blue jeans and size 9 Nike Air Force Max Charles Barkley high tops. He was carrying a beeper, which was purchased on the South Side of Chicago, investigators said.

Though the beeper was purchased in Chicago, that does not necessarily mean the man came from Chicago, Malinowski said.
