Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Maybe it’s time to change your nickname from “Grandmama” to “The Father Of Our Country.”

FATHER’S DAY

A day after being identified in a Sports Illustrated cover story as having fathered several children out of wedlock, Johnson got into a slapfest with Alonzo Mourning in the Knicks-Heat playoff game Thursday night. Both players were suspended for two games and fined.

” I should have known better,” Johnson said Friday when he learned of the suspension. “It was spontaneous, but I had time to do the right thing.”

You can say that again, Dad. And again, and again . . .

COURT DISORDER

It has been a tough year for the image-conscious NBA, with players attacking coaches, spitting on fans and generally behaving like imbeciles. The NBA has handed out 57 fines so far totaling $368,000–a truly impressive figure when you consider it was reached without a single contribution from Dennis Rodman.

BIZARRO WORLD

Rodman was excused from practice Friday so he could appear in court as a character witness for one of his employees.

Next thing you know, Jerry Springer will be saying that he doesn’t want any more violence on his shows. Oh, wait . . .

JUST ASKING

How is it that two guys built like Adonis–Johnson and Mourning–fight like Venus de Milo?

JUST ASKING II

Think Pat Riley would like to have that Ike Austin-for-Brent Barry trade back now?

PINE STAR

Ex-Sox shortstop Ozzie Guillen, the bitter Baltimore benchwarmer who said the Orioles’ infield reserves were better than the Sox’s starting infield, was released Friday.

Evidently the Baltimore bench is so good that even an .063-hitting, rag-arm shortstop can’t keep a job there.

NOWHERE MAN

Blackhawks General Manager Bob Murray insists that pro scout Dirk Graham was never offered the head-coaching job.

In fact, Murray says he’s “nowhere near offering anybody” the job.

Murray has his own hand-picked candidate in mind, but he’s waiting for Bob Pulford to tell him who it is.
