NO INJURIES IN BLAZE OF BARRACKS RUBBLE AT FORMER NIKE BASE

About 35 firefighters from at least three area departments Thursday were called to put out a fire that consumed rubble and wood from the former barracks of the abandoned Nike missile site near Lake Zurich, officials said.

The property, at 20255 N. Quentin Rd., near Rand and Long Grove Roads in unincorporated Lake County, has long been abandoned as a missile base and currently is privately owned, said Lake Zurich Assistant Fire Marshal Mario Tristan.

The blaze was reported at 11 a.m. and was extinguished by 3 p.m., Tristan said. Part of Quentin Road was closed during the fire. No injuries were reported.
