Tim Benka, a veteran teacher in Park Ridge-Niles District 64, has been named assistant principal at the new Emerson Middle School.
Benka, whose one-year contract takes effect July 1, has been with the district for 10 years, teaching special education at Lincoln Middle School.
His salary will be $67,000.
The $20 million Emerson building is under construction just across the Niles border in the shadow of the old Emerson Junior High School. The new school will open in the fall with 650 pupils in grades 6 through 8.
The district passed a $23 million referendum last year to pay for the new school and district technology upgrades.
