Eighth graders from Mokena Junior High School and St. Mary School Monday will take over local government on Mokena’s 9th annual Student Government Day.
The young people elected by their classmates to take over the roles of elected officials and village staffers will spend the day learning how town government works.
They will discuss issues and ideas to prepare for a Village Board meeting of their own in the evening at Mokena Village Hall, 11004 Carpenter St.
Mokena Junior High students will conduct a Village Board meeting at 5 p.m. That meeting will be followed by one conducted by St. Mary students. The mayor and trustees will conduct their regular meeting at 7 p.m.
