DREAMER
By Charles Johnson, Simon & Schuster Audio, approximately 6 hours, $25. Read by Leland Gantt and Andre Braugher.
This tense but poetic novel opens in Chicago and is based on the final two years in the life of Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. “Dreamer” focuses on the fictional character of Chaym Smith, who strongly resembles King physically and sometimes serves as a stand-in for the civil rights leader. The scenes between King and his doppelganger prove dramatic, candid and sometimes oddly playful.
