Historical, environmental and agricultural preservationists will be honored at the 10th annual Garfield Farm Museum awards dinner, to be held Thursday at Dunham Woods Riding Club in Wayne.

The environmental preservation award will be presented to supporters of the Prairie Green project, which involved the purchase of 440 acres on the western end of Geneva for prairie restoration and wetlands. Prairie Green proponents last year helped win Geneva voters’ approval for a $10 million bond issue to fund the land purchase.

Sugar Grove Township will receive the museum’s historic preservation award for the community’s efforts to save and restore the home of pioneer Peleg Bliss. Township officials approved moving the home to save it from development and adapting it for use as township offices and a historical archives center.

The museum’s agricultural preservation award will go to the Land Institute of Salina, Kan., which is seeking to develop perennial crops that would not require cultivation.

Donna Nieler of LaFox and William Muetze of Batavia will receive Garfield heritage awards for their work in preserving Garfield family descendants’ homesteads.

Cost of the dinner, which begins with a 6 p.m. reception, is $30 per person; call 630-584-8485.
