Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

It was 20 years ago that avant-garde jazz composer and saxophonist Roscoe Mitchell recorded for the Nessa label three of his most important works – “The Maze,” for eight percussionists; “L.R.G.,” for a trio of trumpeter Leo Smith, trombonist and tuba player George Lewis and Mitchell; and “SII Examples,” for Mitchell’s solo soprano saxophone. To celebrate that anniversary, “The Maze,” “L.R.G.” and a three-saxophone version of “SII Examples” will be performed in concert at 8 p.m. at the Museum of Contemporary Art on Friday and Saturday.
