Marty Glickman–now 80–was recalling his 1985 return to the Olympic Stadium in Berlin. As he did, those old eyes glazed with new tears and his age-spotted right hand suddenly curled into a trembling fist. He had made his first trip to Berlin as part of the U.S. track team that competed in the infamous XI Olympiad–the Nazi Olympics of 1936. “I went back there once more in ’94. I ended up sitting with my wife in Adolf Hitler’s private box. It was strange, but I remember one thing kept crossing my mind. I was sitting there alive and Hitler had been dead a long, long time. I got to admit, there was some real satisfaction in that. Maybe there was some Olympic justice in that stadium after all.”
