Amid sad farewells for a fellow trustee, Village Board members this week welcomed new Trustee Matthew Heffernan into their ranks.
“As Harry Caray would probably say, `Holy cow!’,” Heffernan said Tuesday after being sworn into office by Deputy Clerk Jeanne Condon. “I am very grateful, very privileged and very honored also.”
Heffernan, 52, replaces former Trustee Tom DiBernardo, who resigned a few weeks ago to take a job in Florida.
“We hate to see Tommy go,” Mayor Ed Zabrocki said of DiBernardo, who had been a trustee for five years.
“If there’s days in my life I wish I could have my cake and eat it too, this would definitely be one of them,” DiBernardo said. “It’s been thoroughly a joy working with everybody.”
Heffernan, a 17-year resident of Tinley Park, is a district sales manager for an Elmhurst-based roofing company. He also has been on the village Oktoberfest and Veterans Commissions.
