A property owner will have to make more progress cleaning up an industrial park on 191st Street to win commercial rezoning for part of a La Grange Road building, trustees have decided.

The cleanup at Blackhawk Industrial Park is behind schedule after two years, Planning Commission Chairman Robert Horras told a Village Board work session last month.

“There are still abandoned semis out there,” he said.

Horras said Blackhawk’s request to rezone part of a 72,000-square-foot building on the northwest corner of Willow Avenue and La Grange Road to commercial from industrial should be contingent on the company’s improving conditions at the industrial park. Improvements include removal of apparently abandoned trucks and scrap steel and installation of fencing and berming.

Blackhawk representative Jack Stewart said the company has made “steady progress.”
