Frank Dobbs, McHenry County’s director of planning and development who was asked to resign, has agreed to leave his post after a little more than a year on the job.

The McHenry County Board on March 19 approved an agreement for Dobbs to leave. Dobbs signed the agreement on March 23 but had until this past Monday to rescind his signature. He was expected to be fired if he did not sign the agreement, which covers compensation issues.

County Board members are releasing few details about Dobbs’ work performance, except to say that he wasn’t aggressive enough for the key position in the state’s fastest-growing county.

Dobbs was placed on paid administrative leave March 6.

Last fall, Dobbs was criticized for mailing letters to various organizations about the impact of budget cuts on the county’s recycling programs. He received a written reprimand for the incident.

In a written response, Dobbs said the letters had been approved by county officials.
