Time to leave: The First Couple of Lake Forest Country Day School will need a lot of guest bedrooms at their new house in South Carolina, judging from the number of people who showed up to honor them at the school’s benefit this year. Assistant admissions director Sally Marks and her husband, headmaster James L. Marks III, are leaving the school after 17 years.

The couple will be turning over the reins to headmistress Kristi Kerins sometime around July 1. And the benefit auction, which was dedicated to Sally Marks, is among several special school events to recognize the couple’s contributions. A new early childhood center is being named for James Marks.

He estimated that 380 people attended the benefit on March 7. “It was fabulous. About 100 more people than in the past came,” Marks said.

Many of them had come to say goodbye. But Marks, who is trading boarding-house life on the school campus for a private house on a golf course near Beaufort, S.C., was telling people to stop by if they’re in the area.

“It was time to move on to other things, but we will leave behind a lot of wonderful friends. We hope they will visit us,” Marks said. “We have plenty of bedrooms.”
