The long wait for a park in Romeoville’s Lakewood Estates is almost over.
After more than two years of negotiations with the developer, DiPaolo Corp., Romeoville Parks Director Steve Gulden said his department is prepared to accept a one-acre site, where about 70 families have been waiting for a park.
The subdivision on Normantown Road has been slow to develop. The Recreation Department, which has park equipment ready to install, has been waiting for the developer to finish landscaping, grading and other site work that would bring the land up to village standards, Gulden said.
Taking on the site as is will cost the village an extra $2,200 beyond the $15,000 the Recreation Department budgeted for the park, Gulden said.
