Vacant land for building new homes disappeared long ago in Lombard, a mature western suburb.
But now Concord Homes has “discovered” 30 acres and has begun construction of Providence, a new subdivision planned for 73 single-family homes priced from $286,490 to $321,400.
“It took us three years to assemble the land,” said Roger Mankedick, Concord’s executive vice president of sales and marketing.
Located in an established residential neighborhood at 18th Street and Fairfield Road, the site included the purchase of 17 parcels and will require the demolition of six existing residences.
Formerly in an unincorporated area, it has been incorporated into Lombard. Concord will add such infrastructure improvements as underground utilities and curbs and gutters.
A model is scheduled to open in June, and the first residents are expected to move in by the end of the year, according to Mankedick.
The four two-story models are the Redford, the Hayward, the Avalon and the Windsor. Aimed at move-up buyers, the residences offer from 2,338 to 2,937 square feet of living area, three to five bedrooms and 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 baths. The 12 floor plan options allow for customization.

The land plan includes two ponds and an open wetland. An on-site sales center is scheduled to open in early April. The subdivision is less than a five-minute drive from Oakbrook Center shopping mall.
