The Village Board selection this week of Arete3/McShane of Rosemont came as no surprise after a committee had recommended that firm at a meeting Saturday.
“This is the company that could best provide the highest quality convention center and at the least cost,” Trustee Pat Rea said. “They are proposing a fine facility on a sizable lake.”
Tinley wants to operate a convention center adjacent to a Holiday Inn on part of a tax increment financing district at Harlem Avenue and Interstate Highway 80.

Trustee Dave Seaman said the venture is necessary to make nearby hotels and other related businesses more viable.
Recent studies indicated that tax revenue generated by a hotel/convention center, commercial area and residential development, all of which are planned for the TIF district, would cover any estimated revenue shortfall produced by the center. That deficit has been projected at $100,000 to $300,000 annually.
Officials have said the village has a spending limit of $6.5 million for the center.
