Park Ridge-Niles District 64 has approved $430,000 in contracts to wire two schools for the Internet and equip three schools with new electricayl equipment.
District 64 has invested heavily in technology over the past year, including the purchase of hundreds of computers. Much of the hardware has been financed by a $2.3 million boost in the education fund that voters approved last year.
The new contracts, however, will be financed through existing operations funds. They include $219,000 for Elk Grove Village-based Connectivity System to wire Carpenter and Roosevelt schools for the Internet and to set up a computer network between schools and the administrative offices. The same company previously won a $249,000 contract for work at Emerson Middle School.
The district said it will also spend $211,000 on electrical equipment to support the technology upgrades at Carpenter, Roosevelt and Emerson.
