THE OTHER SIDE OF THE RIVER
By Alex Kotlowitz, Bantam Doubleday Dell Audio Publishing, 315 minutes, abridged, $24.95. Read by Stanley Tucci.
Stanley Tucci reads with a mix of measured contemplation and moral outrage in this account of a black teenager’s mysterious 1991 death in Michigan. The young man’s body was found in the St. Joseph River between the towns of Benton Harbor and St. Joseph, and Kotlowitz uses the river as a symbol of social divisions between the two communities, one white, the other primarily black.
