Elmhurst School District 205 will try to place a referendum proposal on the November ballot to pay for millions of dollars in renovations at York High School and Bryan Middle School, officials said late Wednesday.
The district has until April 1 to file a request to put the question on the ballot.
But officials have not yet decided exactly how much money to ask voters to approve because of the extensive renovations needed at the two schools. Bryan, at 111 E. Butterfield Rd., needs to be soundproofed, and a 2-year-old study indicates that York, at 355 W. St. Charles Rd., could need nearly $60 million in upgrades.
Officials said they are seeking to determine the structural needs of all the district’s schools through two studies. One focuses on York, while the other encompasses the district’s 11 remaining schools. Both studies should be completed later this month, officials said.
