The city hopes to provide much-needed flood relief to south-end residents this year with reconstruction of the lift station at Long and Grange Avenues.
A $149,422 bid from Gaskill and Walton was accepted for work on the station, which has been unable to keep up with flow during recent heavy rains.
A starting date for the work has not been set.
In 1997, the city bought two new pumps for the lift station to nearly triple the water-flow capacity.
Operating problems have been exacerbated by the tie-in of sewers from two additional subdivisions.
