A recent favorable vote on a proposed subdivision has illustrated the fine art of compromise.
In an unusual split decision, plan commissioners last week voted 4-3 to recommend the Village Board grant preliminary approval to a seven-lot single-family development at 172nd Street and 68th Court, a proposal that surfaced about eight months ago and has faced much opposition from residents.
However, the proposal now seems to be a compromise everyone can live with.
Area homeowners had feared the subdivision would worsen flooding problems, and they were concerned that 68th Court would become a through street. Some thought that would endanger their children.
The plan calls for a berm to signal the end of 68th Court several hundred feet south of 172nd Street but allow for the road to be completed should that property be acquired.
The village also plans to extend water and sewer lines in the area as part of its flood-relief program.
