Several Tinley Park police officers have been recognized by village officials for initiating a charitable program benefiting local residents.
Officers Dennis Mahoney, Rich Kozik, Joe Jenczmionka, T.J. Grady and Sam Shervino were honored for establishing the Tinley Wish program, a spinoff of the nationally known Make a Wish foundation.
Police Chief Michael O’Connell said the officers and their families sponsored a golf outing and went door-to-door soliciting funds for the program. Money raised was used to help four Tinley families during the Christmas season.

Although he declined to say exactly how much was raised, O’Connell said the group exceeded its goal by “several thousand dollars.”
“This is a perfect example of what our officers are all about,” O’Connell said.
“We are fortunate to have a group of young men who feel . . . they want to give back to the people they serve,” Mayor Ed Zabrocki said.
