A 45 m.p.h. speed limit was set Tuesday for a section of Gougar Road in an area recently annexed to New Lenox.
The area of Gougar Road extending from U.S. Highway 6 north almost to Bruce Road was annexed to the village in January at the request of nearby property owners.

There had been no posting of a speed limit in the area, which would have made it 55 m.p.h.
At a recent meeting of property owners and village staff, the residents said traffic safety on Gougar was a concern for them.
Traffic enforcement should keep drivers at the limit and improve safety on the road, village officials said.
In a related matter, Trustee Annette Bowden said there is some resident support for increasing the speed limit on Nelson Road to 30 m.p.h. from 25.
