Tinley Park officials expect to begin the selection process for an ambulance service next week.
Their five-year contract with Co MED expires April 30.

Trustee Tom DiBernardo said the wording of the letter inviting companies to bid for the service, called a “request for qualifications,” has been approved by a village committee and will be up for a vote at the board meeting Tuesday
This request, unlike earlier ones, will not require interested companies to maintain a facility in Tinley Park that would house the vehicles, according to DiBernardo.
DiBernardo said although Co MED does have a facility in Tinley, they have been providing service a “more modern way,” in which ambulances patrol the village rather than remain in a stationary building waiting for a call.
Also, providers will be required to bid a minimum of two ambulances, as in the past, but also will have to give a separate cost for a third ambulance, should that be needed to meet the maximum allowed response time of six minutes per call.
Ambulance service costs $216,000 annually, Village Manager Dave Dorgan said.
