The board of East Maine District 63 is expected Tuesday to approve a school safety coordinator for Gemini Junior High in a bid to cut down on suspensions and expulsions.
Pam Burkman, 29, a graduate of John Marshall Law School, previously did work for Gemini through a Chicago-based not-for-profit group that provides mediation services throughout Cook County.
She began full time at Gemini late last month, though her $48,000-a-year position will not be formally approved until the board meets Tuesday night.
The Niles school recorded five expulsions and 48 suspensions last year.
The new program will be paid for through a state grant.
