School colors: Jim Rinke of Mokena graduated from Lincoln-Way High School almost two decades ago, but he’s still true to his school.
Rinke, class of ’80, recently donated his stained-glass rendition of the school’s trademark knight’s helmet to the school.
Making the circular glass portrait of a knight’s visor topped with a flowing red plume has taken up a lot of Rinke’s free time.
“Jim’s labor of love took about 40 hours, and it shows in the detail,” school board member Chris Glatz said.
“I got a lot out of the school, and I felt I wanted to give something back,” said Rinke, a photographer and fingerprint specialist at Stateville Correctional Center, Crest Hill.
The stained-glass knight logo will be displayed near the front entrance of the Central Campus in New Lenox.
“I hope in some small way present and future Lincoln-Way supporters will get the same pleasure from viewing it that I did in creating it,” he said.
