Hoffman Estates learned a lesson Friday night from Elk Grove’s Jason Rojek and then beat its teacher 64-58 in overtime.

With 1 minute 50 seconds left, host Hoffman Estates led 51-41, but Rojek scored eight points in a 13-3 Elk Grove run to force overtime. He capped the run with two free throws with 2 seconds left.

Elk Grove took its first and only lead on a basket by Rojek early in overtime. Hoffman Estates outscored the Grenadiers 10-2 the rest of the way.

“Rojek showed my kids how to be competitors,” Hoffman Estates coach Bill Landro said. “He single-handedly took over the game.”

Chris Sigl scored six of his 20 points in overtime for Hoffman (16-3, 4-2 Mid-Suburban South). Frank Iovinelli added 11 off the bench.

Rojek led all scorers with 22 points. Aaron Barthel, who fouled out with 2:10 to go, added 16 points for Elk Grove (11-7, 2-4).

DeKalb 55, Waubonsie Valley 50: Vince Robinson (14 points) and Chad Mazanowski (13) helped DeKalb (11-8, 4-5) upset Waubonsie (14-5, 6-3) in the Upstate Eight.

Notre Dame 48, Benet 46: Mark Milkovic (14 points) and Kevin Clancy (11 points, eight rebounds) paced Notre Dame (13-5, 7-1) to the East Suburban victory. Bobby Gallivan scored 14 for Benet (9-10, 2-6).

Glenbard West 65, Proviso West 62: Desmond Heard scored 17 points to lead Glenbard West (13-4, 5-2) to a 65-62 victory over host Proviso West to create a three-way tie for the West Suburban Silver lead with Proviso and Hinsdale Central. Brucal Green scored 19 for Proviso West (9-9, 5-2).

Buffalo Grove 59, Wheeling 52 (2 OT): Buffalo Grove (14-6, 5-1) converted six free throws in the second overtime to prevail in the Mid-Suburban North. Jason Wiertel scored 17 for the victors. Wheeling is 10-8, 0-6.

St. Joseph 86, Joliet Catholic 52: Marlon London’s 17 points and Rob Walls’ 15 sparked St. Joseph (12-6, 7-1) in the East Suburban Catholic. Joliet Catholic’s Jason Ericksen led all scorers with 26.

St. Charles 59, Larkin 58 (OT): Eric Dodson (19 points), Phil Kwitkowski (15) and Jeff Pallija (14) led St. Charles (14-6, 6-3) to the Upstate Eight victory. Denny Penrod had 13 points and 11 rebounds for Larkin (11-9, 2-4).

Burlington Central 70, Johnsburg 64: Burlington Central (18-1, 5-0) stayed undefeated in the Big Northern Red behind P.J. Sportsman’s 23 points. Johnsburg is 6-13, 2-3.

Palatine 44, Hersey 33: Chris Bays scored 14 points to guide Palatine (14-6, 4-2 Mid-Suburban North). Hersey (7-12, 2-4) was within three points in the fourth, but Palatine hit four free throws and scored twice on layups to put the game away. Mike Kulbeda scored 10 in defeat.

Chicago Latin 48, North Shore Country Day 35: Tony Williams had 19 points to lead Latin (13-6, 6-2) in the Independent School League.

Morgan Park Academy 58, Lake Forest Academy 37: In the Independent School League, John Enright’s 20 points led Morgan Park Academy (5-15, 2-6).

Wilmot (Wis.) 64, Grant 63: Grant (6-14) fell short in the non-conference contest despite 19 points by Brad Kaminscky.

St. Viator 70, Marian Catholic 56: Mike Howland’s 33 points helped St. Viator (13-5, 6-2) roll in the East Suburban Catholic. Howland scored 14 in the third quarter, when the Lions outscored Marian 21-7. Roderick Middleton’s 15 points led Marian (9-10, 5-4).

Mundelein 60, Warren 56: Eric Lavernier’s 21 points helped Mundelein (13-7, 5-4) prevail in the North Suburban.

Conant 50, Prospect 49: Conant (13-6, 3-3) had a 15-point lead with 5:44 left in the third quarter before Prospect (8-8, 2-4) rallied. Russ Michna (11 points) hit two free throws with 2.3 seconds left to lift the Cougars in the Mid-Suburban South. Aaron Adams (16 points) and Matt Walpole (15) led Prospect.

Antioch 64, Stevenson 59: Chris Groth’s 22 points and Don Lackey’s 21 carried Antioch (12-7, 5-4) in the North Suburban. Peter Ogilvie scored 16 for Stevenson (4-15, 1-8).

Deerfield 52, Glenbrook North 41: Deerfield (6-11, 3-3) won in the Central Suburban North with Brian Casey’s 23 points. Pete Carroll scored 12 for Glenbrook North.

St. Patrick 53, Holy Cross 52: Andy Baumgardner scored 15 points for St. Patrick (10-8, 6-2), which held on in the East Suburban Catholic. Rich Ewalt had 17 for Holy Cross (5-13, 0-8).

Evanston 63, Glenbrook South 47: In the Central Suburban South, Evanston (12-6, 4-2) broke open a one-point halftime lead with a 17-3 third-quarter run. Karlton Mims led the Wildkits with 24 points, and Davis Robinson added 10. Justin Coons scored 20 for Glenbrook South (8-11, 2-4).

Waukegan 69, Maine East 34: Waukegan (9-8, 4-2) rolled in the Central Suburban South behind Dominique Jones’ 24 points and five steals. Maine East dropped to 5-15, 1-5.

Cary-Grove 66, Dundee-Crown 53: Jason Cummins’ 17 points and Will Shappee’s 14 guided the Trojans (11-8, 6-5) in the Fox Valley. Dundee-Crown’s Jermaine Ferguson had 18 points.

Glenbard North 49, Naperville Central 37: Jeff Malmstedt came off the bench to score 15 points for the Panthers (10-8, 4-4) and Mark Johnson chipped in 14 in the DuPage Valley game. Tim Szatko had 20 points for Naperville (13-6, 4-4).

Riverside-Brookfield 53, Ridgewood 47: Randy Ramsey (25 points) hit three consecutive three-pointers in the third quarter to help R-B (15-3, 7-0) overcome a four-point deficit and prevail in the Suburban Prairie Blue. Rafael Lizak led all scorers with 26 points for Ridgewood (6-14, 3-4). R-B has won 17 consecutive league games.

Weber 50, Loyola 47: Weber (5-14, 2-7) prevailed in the Catholic North as Emmanuel Richardson and Cortney Denson scored 15 points each.

Quigley 67, Holy Trinity 46: Donald Higgins scored 30 points for Quigley (10-10, 4-3) in the Chicago Prep. Holy Trinity is 2-15, 1-7.

St. Edward 67, Driscoll 43: Eddie Castro hit five three-pointers en route to 21 points for St. Edward (12-7, 8-1 Suburban Catholic). Driscoll is 2-19, 0-9.
