Elementary schools throughout Naperville have received a bit of a financial windfall as part of a program sponsored by Mobil Corp.

Since last June, the nine Mobil gasoline stations in the city have donated to a selected local school 1 cent for every gallon of gas sold by the stations on Tuesdays. Mobil said about $15,000 was distributed to nine schools in 1997.

“We are committed to giving back to the community that has helped our businesses,” said Steve Blume, the company’s Chicago area district manager. “We share in their concerns for better educational opportunities for all students and are pleased that the fundraising program has been such a success.”

The program continues until June.
