Corrine
Mi Confidente (RMM) (star) (star)
Oh, Corrine, Ralph Mercado’s teenage queen. She’s cute enough, and there’s some nice grit in the vocals, but this is still a work-in-progress. Recruited to direct and produce is Isidro Infante, who did such smooth work on La India’s CD last year, but here Infante’s fallen into a vat of bubble gum and can’t get out. Or maybe Mercado just poured it on. The point is, here’s a young woman with some potential, a batch of mediocre songs (including a very limp Spanish-language version of “Unbreak My Heart,” now that RMM has discovered American R&B hits work with the cross-cultural younger Latino generation), and very indifferent production.
