Trains won’t stop at Kinzie Station, but that’s not going to bother buyers at this new residential project near downtown Chicago.
The four-acre property, located west of the Chicago River, is within walking distance of the Loop and River North.
CMC Heartland Partners plans to build 428 one- and two-bedroom condominiums and townhouses and three-bedroom penthouses on a long, narrow site paralleling the south side of the Metra tracks.
Heartland Partners, a Chicago-based real estate company, is the successor to the Milwaukee Road Railroad.
Construction of the $82 million project is expected to begin in March. The first phase, to be erected between Jefferson and Des Plaines Streets, will include 192 residences that range in price from $85,490 to $635,000 and in size from 538 to 3,200 square feet. Indoor parking is included.
A 25-story condominium tower with 162 units is expected to be completed in June, 1999, while the first occupancies in a four-story condo building (24 units) and six townhouses are scheduled by the end of this year, according to Susan Tjarksen, project manager.
The second phase will consist of 170 condos in another tower, two four-story condo buildings and 18 townhouses.
The land plan calls for landscaped walkways, fountains and green spaces. Ground-floor retail is planned for the tower on Des Plaines Street.
Prospective buyers can walk through a decorated condo model at the sales center, which is at the southwest corner of Clinton and Kinzie Streets.
