Supt. Lawrence Wyllie of Lincoln-Way High School District 210 told the school board Thursday night that school officials and citizens have a full schedule of speaking engagements to drum up support for a bond issue referendum that if approved would convert the district’s two buildings into two separate high schools.
“We’re all trying to get a feeling on how it is going,” Wyllie said.
He said results of scheduled telephone surveys may give a clearer picture of public opinion.
The district has placed a $60 million ballot initiative to expand the district’s two buildings, and officials want to present their side to the public before March 17, when voters in the Frankfort, New Lenox, Mokena, Manhattan and Frankfort Square school districts are asked to approve it.
If voters say yes, the funds will pay for remodeling the freshman-sophomore Lincoln-Way East Campus in Frankfort and the junior-senior Lincoln-Way Central Campus in New Lenox into two separate four-year high schools to handle increasing enrollment.
