Roseanne, resplendent in a lime-green outfit and armed with her caustic wit, was center stage at the National Association of Television Program Executives meet here. And not because of her outlandish clothes.
She was the event’s keynote speaker Tuesday, and besides chatting about her latest marital split, Roseanne talked about her new, out-in-September talk show. For many of the execs who have not seen a pilot but purchased the show on the strength of its star and its distributor, King World, this was their first chance to hear about it.
“I’ll have as guests 800-pound couples who have a baby but can’t find it,” joked Roseanne. “I’ll be funnier than Geraldo and just as cute as Donny and Marie (Osmond). I’m excited because I can ask Joyce Brothers such penetrating questions as which college made you a doctor?”
Roseanne said she thinks “television is at its best when . . .it evokes controversy which evokes discussion, thinking and learning. . .which means more money for me.”
