A Crete grocer’s decision to expand into Peotone won’t affect Steger’s efforts to attract a grocery, Village President Lou Sherman said Tuesday.

Sherman’s comment followed the recent purchase of a Peotone grocery by Donald Seehausen, owner of the Crete-based Seehausen’s Food Center.

Seehausen previously had shown an interest in building a grocery in Steger.

Sherman predicted his village would see construction of a new grocery on the 3200 block of Chicago Road before the end of 1998.

In the meantime, village officials are working to clear the title to a parcel of land for the store. The site currently is part of a parking lot near a Super K-Mart and a strip mall.
