A DuPage County judge has extended through Feb. 19 a pact between the Downers Grove Park District and Good Samaritan Hospital that bars development of a fitness center near Lyman Woods Forest Preserve.
The Downers Grove Park District Board of Commissioners voted 4-1 last year to sue the hospital to block construction of a $14 million health and fitness facility, which environmentalists said would cause extensive ecological damage to Lyman Woods and a buffer zone.
Hospital attorneys have maintained that the hospital has followed proper legal procedures to develop the 8 acres it owns adjacent to the 135-acre preserve.
Circuit Judge Bonnie Wheaton set Feb. 18 as the next hearing date for the suit.
