Freezing weather will not stop the drilling for a new well on the southern end of Mokena.
The Planning Commission last week approved a special-use permit to allow construction of a well and well house on village-owned land at Ridgemore Road and Primrose Lane in the Old Castle South subdivision.
Village Planner Martin Scott said the land measures 120 square feet. “The importance of this property is that it will be used to service the southern area of Mokena,” Scott said.
A new water tower will eventually be built nearby, on the south side of U.S. Highway 30, Scott said.
“They just need a (water) pumping station now,” Planning Commission Chairman Robert Horras said.
The well house area will be landscaped, said Community Development Director Alan Zordan. “We can make it as nice as we want it to look.”
Crews will begin drilling for the well in the next two months, Zordan said, but the well house may not be built for six months to a year.
